Former national cricket team’s stylish batsman Muhammad Yousuf escaped world record breaking. 2021 was a great year for English captain Joe Root, who scored runs against all opponents in Test cricket with his superb batting, but could not break Muhammad Yusuf’s world record with just 81 runs short. However, Joey Root has become England’s leading run-scorer in the calendar year. He scored 1708 runs while this year Rory Burns with 530 runs, Johnny Bristow with 391 runs and Oli Pope with 368 runs are in the second to fourth position.
Muhammad Yousuf set the world record for most Test runs in a calendar year in 2006 by scoring 1788 runs, which was previously held by the legendary West Indies batsman Sir Owen Richards. He scored 1710 runs in 1976 and now the English captain is at the third position in this list. Former captain Mohammad Yousuf scored 1788 runs in 19 innings of 11 matches at an average of 99.33 in 2006, including 9 centuries and 3 half-centuries, while he also played an innings of 202 runs.
“I am very happy that my bat is making runs, but the greatest joy for any captain is to win a match,” said Joe Root.
