The prolonged lockdown due to the pandemic has devastated many aspects of the life of people all around the globe. Organizational and political leaders had to react quickly and sufficiently to restrict the spread of the virus everywhere. The devastation and uncertainty of the events linked to the pandemic have changed the ways people used to perform their jobs in and out of their organizations. This has also affected even the way people used to think about different aspects of life. The mental health of people and concerns of the survival and growth of organizations as well as nations around the globe were bound to put a diversion to get the desired goals.

This diversion has changed the organizational culture in different aspects. Just like people are now asked to work from home, the meetings and conferences now are happening virtually. World leaders are now addressing the people of their nation virtually, and Information technology and artificial intelligence are taking place of the human workers rapidly, etc. Researchers say that the impact of COVID-19 on economic and cultural aspects has created a “new normal within the COVID-19 era” This radical transformation amid COVID-19 has changed the way employees and employers used to interact and operate business activities at the workplace.

According to studies, many businesses have shut down their business activities and the surviving ones have asked their employees to work from home. It was because political leaders around the globe were having a situation to restrict people from gatherings and asked them to have a social distancing. So, medical and health institutions around all the countries designed some SOPs to follow while the slope of new corona cases found declining. Following SOPs and working with the same organizational culture yet seemed far away. Because, workers, particularly those doing technology-related jobs, have now become used to working from home.

So, organizational leaders have changed the working culture. Most of the giant tech organizations have adopted remote working culture. They are now used to digital meetings and communication to create synergy in the work. This adaptation of new trends related to organizational culture is a result of the reality of the situation of COVID-19.

Educational institutions have also been significantly influenced by COVID-19. The learning culture is now getting at a rapid pace to shift online. The medical and health concerning departments have issued recommendations to the leadership of the educational institutions almost around the globe to shut down educational activities which were congenitally provided physically temporary to restrict the spread of the virus. The classroom culture of learning and educating students has now partly shifted online. This is widespread and significant evidence of the impact of COVID-19 on organizational culture.

The major sports leagues and tournaments have now played without spectators around the globe. The leagues’ management has to take some bold decisions and were supposed to have transparent communication with the players to make sure the health of the players has kept more important than the revenues they generate from organizing the sports leagues. The workforce is also significantly reduced to manage the sports activities at various avenues and stadiums as they are being played without spectators. Which has a significant impact on the culture of organizing sports activities amid COVID-19.

The thinking style of leadership has also been influenced by COVID-19 significantly. As leadership has to show some urgency while making any decision making amid to restrict the spread of the virus. Organizational leadership, as well as political leadership, are required to take decisive action to restrict the virus because any delay in the process will cost the lives of people as well as economic damage to their respective counties/states and organizations. Therefore, decisive actions with transparent communication have been an important personality leadership trait that many of the leaders used as a tool to give importance to the lives of the people along with any further economic damages at the start of the spread of COVID-19.

A significant transformation has also been studied by the researchers to link the increasing role of government and companies. After the 2008 financial crisis, the political leadership had to step in to save some of the industries from complete financial losses. Because COVID-19 not only influenced to temporary shut down of some industries but, several other industries including tourism, hospitality, travel, supply chain, etc. Industries have lost several companies amid financial crises. The intervention of political leadership in rescuing these companies will have long-term consequences on the taxpayers. This may lead to mistrust and citizens might require strict demands to oversight the political leadership’s bailout practices.
